Preparation [ edit ]
Radium carbonate was added to hydrobromic acid and then heated to 550° C. under argon protection for 390 minutes to prepare.
- RaCO 3 + 2HBr → RaBr 2 + CO 2 + H 2 O
It is also possible to heat chlorinated radium in gaseous hydrogen bromide and emit red light to indicate that hydrogen bromide reduces chlorination of radium to brominated radium.
- RaCl 2 + 2HBr → RaBr 2 + H 2 + Cl 2[Source request]
