Aerodramus unicolor
( Jerdon , 1840)
The Indian swiftlet (scientific name: Aerodramus unicolor ) is a small swiftlet of the Swiftidae family . They are often bred and swarmed in the mountains of Sri Lanka and southwest India .
Indian swiftlet nests on the facade, common in caves. The bird's nest is bright and white with a bowl-like shape, built by the male with its sticky saliva. Two eggs per nest. Its relatively odorless bird nest is often collected by humans and mixed with chicken, spices and other condiments to make traditional food bird's nest porridge .
The swiftlets of India are 12 cm long, the upper body feathers are mainly dark brown, and the lower body is light brown. The wings are crescent-shaped or pullback -style swept. The body is long and the tail feathers are short and slightly jagged.
Bisexual adult birds resemble young birds. Since the Swift does not stand upright on its own, the short legs of the Indian swiftlet are only used for climbing the facade.
The Indian swiftlet spends most of its life in the air and lives by trapping insects in the air and drinking water from its wings.
